The ninth edition of the Xacobeo Rally da Auga has concluded with a new exhibition by the Catalan driver Xevi Pons, who, accompanied by Rodrigo Sanjuán, has not given any of his rivals a chance throughout the day and in this second and last section he certified that It is already his fourth victory in this test, which joins those achieved in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

Pons has led Rodrigo Zeballos – Sebastián González by just over a minute, who have shown themselves to be the next strongest team today, without making any mistakes. Félix Macías and Alejandro Portela took the last place on the podium, carrying out a test from less to more, and despite using an older Fabia R5, they have faced many Rally2s.

The fourth place was certainly competed between Daniel Alonso, Oriol Gómez and Juan Carlos Quintana, who arrived separated by 10 seconds to the last special. The order has not changed and the cat overboard has been taken by the Asturian driver of the Citroën C3, by only 4 seconds over the Catalan driver while the Canarian finished sixth.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Iberian Cup was very competitive, and although Dani Berdomás and Sergi Francolí arrived separated by a single second in the last section, the driver from Coruña broke the rear differential and gave in to a Francolí, who with María Salvo on the right won the his debut in the contest. The Junior U24 Scholarship went to Unai de la Dehesa and Alain Peña, who despite suffering a puncture, came back half a minute from Víctor Navarro in the last section to win.

Regarding the 2WD Cup, Aritz Iriondo – Joseba Sánchez dominated the R2 Challenge at will at the controls of the Peugeot 208 R2, while Paco Montes – David Collado did the same in the Proto Challenge with their small Peugeot 106. Javier Sosa – Carlos Fragiel have also traveled placidly towards victory in Desafío N3 at the wheel of the Skoda Fabia. Unai García and Eguzkiñe Enriquez prevailed in the Kobe Motor Cup, keeping the competition at bay at all times to add the second consecutive victory.

This weekend a new edition of the Xacobeo Rally da Auga will take place, a scoring event for the Spanish Gravel Rally Cup – Rallycar and a candidate event to be part of the FIA ​​ERT Iberian Rally Trophy.

A total of 53 registered participants will participate on a route traced over the regions of Arzúa and Santiago, with the action divided into two days. On Friday, May 6, the action will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the dispute of two shakedowns at the same time (one for the participants eligible to do the Qualifying Stage and another for the rest of the teams).

The start will be held at the As Cancelas Shopping Center after which the participants will go to the Arzúa area to run the show stage at 6:50 p.m. and then a presentation ceremony at Praza da Feira.

On Saturday the rally will have a very compact format, with three long and selective double-pass stages, making up two competitive sections that will decide who wins.

The main novelty in terms of entries will be the participation of the triple winner of this rally and five-time Gravel Spanish champion Xevi Pons, who starts as the main favorite to win with his Fabia Rally2. He will not be the only national champion present with a top-level car as Oriol Gómez or Álex Villanueva will also be on the starting line. Juan Carlos Quintana, Rodrigo Zeballos or Daniel Alonso will be other protagonists who start with the first numbers in this edition.

This Xacobeo Rally da Auga will be very important in terms of promotion cups, being the first rally on the peninsula for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Iberian Cup, the Beca Junior U24 that is disputed with the Renault Clio Rally5, the three divisions within the Cup 2RM (R2, Proto and N3), and the Kobe Motor Cup with the small Toyota Aygo. In addition, it will also be the first event of the Triangular N5, a mini contest that includes this category of vehicles on gravel.
